Jakub Jagoda (b. 2002), from Ustka, Poland, creates digital works that delve into the hidden shadows of human experience. His pieces, exhibited in galleries across Paris, Rome, Seoul, New York, and Lisbon, capture singular moments in imaginative settings, exploring mortality, war’s devastation, abuse, and corruption.
As influenced by the surreal realms of Beksiński, Sapkowski and the energy of heavy metal, Jakub explores humanity’s darker edges from a safe distance — an approach that has garnered recognition in commercial spaces, including metal album commissions and features in Cosmic Horror Monthly. Initially an escape from the emotional weight of personal and social expectations, Jakub’s artistic journey evolved into a means of taking a step back from life’s harsh realities.
“I create this art to embrace memento mori – to remember death”, Jakub explains. “This art helps me cope with our limited time on earth. Life is valuable only because we die.“
